  1. This charming fella doesn't mean "blow up his own stuff"!

He means "blow up somebody else's stuff."!

Preferably somebody who is black, or gay, or librul.

In other words, he's a conservative!

  2. I should point out, that in bomb disposal "blow it up" is actually a valid way to proceed.

That being said, it would be inaccurate to compare the United States to an unattended, potentially explosive handbag left in a crowded area... wouldn't it?

    1. Actually, yes. You've got me there. In demolitions, you have to thoroughly understand what you are about to blow up. But in bomb disposal - and ONLY in bomb disposal - the fact that you don't quite know what you're dealing with will cause you to do a controlled explosion. Both of your points are solid. Okay!

    2. Actually, in EOD "blow it in place" is the last, WORST solution and only chosen if every other single option (including "mark it and leave it alone") has to be ruled out.

For the simple reason that you can never be sure that you've managed to think out all possible "bad outcomes". Sure, you've got it sandbagged off so that the worst of the blast is direct vertically. But due to deterioration of the main charge does the explosion develop idiosyncratically and develop a strongly directional blast? Does the casing fragment asymmetrically and throw a much larger fragment much further than you've cordoned off?

So, while "blow it" IS an EOD technique, like Trumpism, it's considered crude and stupid and not a substitute for better thought-out and executed techniques...
