I Donated To Hillary Clinton's Campaign. I Suggest You Do Likewise.

This morning I clicked on this link and donated to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.

I was proud to vote for Bernie Sanders, and I think he ran a great campaign.

Yes, I said "ran." His movement will continue; the fight for economic justice itself will continue. However, he no longer has a realistic chance to be the party's nominee. What's more important is that Donald Trump has done so well in the past week that he has a pretty good shot at locking down the Republican nomination without a convention floor fight. And remember, even the alternative to Trump is a man who wants to have police patrolling Muslim neighborhoods and bomb the Middle East until we find out "if sand can glow in the dark."

We can't assume the GOP is going to come out of their primary season divided and weak. What might happen is they might decide to nominate a vicious bigot, rally around that vicious bigot, and then appeal to the bigotry in ordinary Americans.

Historically, when has that ever been a bad bet in this country?

Hillary Clinton is the best-qualified candidate for the job, and supporting her is the best chance we have to defeat something evil in American politics. For me, that's always been the top priority. It should be your top priority as well.

TRUMP TALES OF TERROR is about ugly creatures, murderous fantasies, and apocalyptic worlds – and they’re right in America. YOU CAN BUY IT HERE.

    1. Donald Trump promises to persecute Muslims in America. He promises to bring back torture, and make it worse than anything Dick Cheney ever did. Prominent Klansmen and Neo-Nazis are openly excited about the prospect of a Trump presidency.

You're absolutely right that I can't make you care enough to try to stop any of this. But I know which side I want to be on if we elect the next Adolf Hitler.

    2. And just so you know I'm not making the Hitler comparison lightly - here is the endorsement by the neo-Nazi site The Daily Stormer:

    3. Did it ever occur to you that Trump is nothing more than a strawman to ensure Clinton is elected?

You are aware that he and the Clintons have been friends for a number of years?

She has the perfect way to get herself elected - ensure that the choice besides her is a psychopath. And assuming she gets the Democratic Party Nomination, of course that's narrative the establishment is going to create; something you've already bought into.

I care about the right people being in place to effect change for the better, for all. Sanders is the choice that works for me. I've learned that supporting the least offensive of choices never works in a democracy.

If the political machines of the establishment fix it so they aren't going to support him, then Sanders has the choice to run as an independent. If he does, he's got my vote.

And honestly in this day and age, I fear the power of the Koch brothers (who endorse Clinton) - money is the most dangerous weapon the establishment has because it has the most reach into all facets of society to keep it under control, something neither the Klan nor Neo-Nazis have.

If 'I can't make you care enough to try to stop any of this.' is going to be your approach to responding going forward, then there's no point in communicating with you. But don't try accusing people of something they haven't done just because they refuse to make bad choice you're making.

    4. 1. The Trump strawman argument is a conspiracy theory.
      2. Choosing the least offensive candidate is pretty much how voting works.
      3. The Koch brothers haven't endorsed Hillary Clinton.
      4. Yeah, it is a matter of whether you care enough to stop an open bigot with neo-Nazi supporters. Sorry. But that's actually how this season is playing out. Sit on the sidelines if you want. I won't. I don't think anyone else should either.

  3. Reposting -

No - I will *NOT* vote for someone I fundamentally disagree with and think is the wrong choice to lead this country.

Clinton is the establishment's choice - and that exactly the reason why things are the way they are. And Trump was and always will be a non-option. It will only change for the better in one of two ways -

    1) People push for change.
    2) Let it all fall apart.

If Bernie Sanders doesn't get the Democratic Party's Presidential nomination, he should run as an independent. As far as I'm concerned this is a real test of the 'movement' you mentioned. That movement will die as long as folks like yourself support the very establishment that seeks to keep things as they are for itself and its benefactors.

  4. Fortunately, these rabid, spittle flying Clinton haters, with their nonsensical conspiracy fantasies and their secret desire for the worst possible outcome, are a pretty small proportion of the Sanders supporters. Noisy, obnoxious, but small
